At
the outset, Dr. Yolin may need to use the drill to remove hard
substance, such as enamel or old fillings. This is a quick
procedure with limited discomfort. Clinical studies show,
in fact, that local anesthetics could be avoided.
Dr.
Yolin then covers the cavity with Carisolv (TM) gel, waits 30
seconds for the carious dentine to soften and then starts carefully
to scrape away the softened caries. The gel may be applied
again and the gentle scraping repeated until the cavity is caries
free. Finally, Dr. Yolin can inspect and fill it like any
other cavity.

When
Can Carisolv Be Used?
Carisolv
can be used in virtually any case of tooth decay. So far
more than 100,000 patients have been treated. Dr. Yolin,
however, knows when it is most advantageous and is likely to recommend
it in the following situations:
Cavities on the root surface
Deep cavities
Children
Patients with anxiety
Whenever local anesthetics are not an option
